Photography Classes: Levels & Tracks
The Art of Digital Photography: Levels & Tracks
CLASS DESCRIPTIONS: Please feel free to contact us to discuss your specific level.
Every photographer begins with curiosity. This is where it turns into confidence.
In Creatives Level I, students are introduced to the essential building blocks of photography—ISO, shutter speed, and aperture—learning how these three elements work together to create beautifully exposed images. With hands-on guidance, students move beyond “auto mode” and begin to truly understand their cameras.
But technical skill is only the beginning.
We focus deeply on the foundations of composition—how to frame a subject, create balance, use lines and space, and tell a story within a single image. Just as importantly, we explore the world around us: noticing light, shifting perspective, and recognizing the emotion within each scene. Students learn that photography is not only about settings—it’s about awareness.
This class builds a strong, supportive environment where beginners feel comfortable experimenting, asking questions, and developing their creative eye.
Family Classes offer a special opportunity for teens (ages 9+) to accompany an adult and learn side-by-side in the studio—growing skills together while sharing a meaningful creative experience.
Creatives Level I is where technique meets wonder—and where photographers begin to see differently.
CREATIVES LEVEL II: ADVANCED BEGINNERS
Ready to move beyond the basics and begin shooting with greater intention?
In Creatives Level II, students build on their foundational knowledge of ISO, shutter speed, and aperture, stepping more confidently into manual control. We refine manual focus selection, explore in-camera menu settings, and deepen understanding of how small adjustments create powerful visual impact.
This is where experimentation begins to feel purposeful.
Students are introduced to larger creative concepts and technical tools such as macro photography for discovering hidden detail, selective focus to guide the viewer’s eye, and ND/Special filters to control light in dynamic ways. We explore long exposure techniques, including panning, learning how to capture motion with clarity and artistry.
Level II encourages curiosity while strengthening technical fluency. Students begin to think more intentionally about subject, movement, and mood—bridging the gap between understanding their camera and shaping a personal style.
This class is about momentum—expanding skill, embracing experimentation, and stepping confidently into more expressive image-making.
CREATIVES LEVEL III: INTERMEDIATE
For photographers ready to move beyond the technical and into the intentional.
In Creatives Level III, students come equipped with a confident, working knowledge of the exposure triangle and the ability to shoot comfortably in full manual mode. With that foundation firmly in place, we shift our focus from how to use the camera to why we make each creative choice.
This is where craft meets voice.
We dive deeper into a range of genres and styles—exploring landscape and portraiture, expressive black & white, long exposures, and layered compositional strategies. Techniques begin to overlap and build upon one another, encouraging students to think conceptually while refining precision.
Equally important, we explore the power of workflow and thoughtful processing. Students learn how editing supports storytelling, strengthens consistency, and elevates intention—without overpowering authenticity.
Level III is both technical and personal. Each photographer is guided toward identifying and refining their individual artistic direction, with attention to their unique goals, strengths, and creative curiosities.
This is not just about capturing images.
It’s about shaping a body of work with clarity, confidence, and purpose.
CREATIVES LEVEL IV: ADVANCED INTERMEDIATE, Pre-Professional Track & Independent Study - maximum 4 students.
This is where photographers begin to work with intention, refinement, and direction.
Designed for advanced intermediate students with a full working knowledge of the exposure triangle in manual mode, Creatives Level IV moves beyond technique and into deeply personal image-making. With a maximum of four students, this class offers focused mentorship and a highly individualized approach.
Each photographer’s goals, strengths, and artistic interests shape the direction of their experience. Together, we narrow genres, refine storytelling approaches, and develop cohesive bodies of work—while allowing space for independent projects to grow and evolve. Whether building a portfolio, exploring a long-term concept, or preparing for pre-professional opportunities, students receive guidance tailored specifically to their creative path.
We work both collaboratively and independently. Group critiques and discussions foster perspective and community, while dedicated time is carved out for advancing personal projects with thoughtful feedback and strategic direction.
Complex compositional concepts and advanced techniques are applied with intention—never as isolated exercises, but as tools. Workflow and processing practices to strengthen consistency and craft.
Level IV is mentorship-driven, artist-centered, exploratory and purposefully intimate—designed for photographers ready to elevate their voice while advancing work that is uniquely their own.
